Best vacation spots and activities
Alberta Legislature Building - The Alberta Legislature Building was constructed in 1911, when Edmonton was designated as the province's capital. Tours are available every day of the week during the summer and every weekday the remainder of the year. They are completely free.
Golfing - It's surprising that a city so far north would be a golf destination, but it is. There are several golf courses in both the city and the surrounding area. The sport is popular among locals, thanks in part to the city's sunny (though not necessarily hot or even mild) weather.
Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village - Located just outside of town on Highway 16, on the opposite side of Elk Island National Park. It is a recreated village that depicts life for Ukrainian immigrants to Alberta around the start of the twentieth century. The village operates like a village would, with historical interpreters acting as village residents.
Northern Lights - Edmonton is located at a latitude of 53°N, therefore it is in the area where the Aurora Borealis may be seen. Of course, if you move to the northern areas, your chances are considerably higher. If you can't make it there, the Northern Lights may be seen over Edmonton for roughly 90 days out of the year. Winter is the greatest season. And if you venture outside of the city, you are more likely to have a decent view.
West Edmonton Mall - While Edmonton is not recognized for being a fashionable destination, shopaholics will find North America's largest mall of considerable appeal. Louis Vitton, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, and more luxury stores have recently been added to the mall. The mall, on the other hand, provides something for everyone. There are several eating alternatives available, including both fast food and full-service restaurants. The mall even has an indoor waterpark with slides and a wave pool. The West Edmonton Mall in and of itself is a destination in and of itself.
Skiing - Edmonton is close to Canada's Rocky Mountains and the ski resorts that are located inside them. In addition, there are a few ski clubs in the city. Although these are tiny slopes, they do feature lifts. These ski resorts are especially suitable for novices. Snow Valley is located in the city's southwest corner, Rabbit Hill Snow Resort is just outside the municipal limits, and Sunridge Ski Area is east of downtown.
Fort Edmonton Park - Fort Edmonton Park is a historical park located on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River southwest of downtown Edmonton. It has reconstructed old streets and buildings. It, like the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Park, includes interpreters dressed as peasants from the start of the twentieth century and the mid-nineteenth century pioneer days. Younger tourists will enjoy the midway (fair) and its antique carousel, in addition to a streetcar and a train that may be ridden.
