Baltic Station is Tallinn, Estonia's principal train station. The station serves as the departure point for all local commuter, long-distance, and international trains.
The station has seven platforms, two of which are separated from the others and serve either GoRail's international Tallinn–Moscow and Tallinn–Saint Petersburg lines, or Elron's long-distance route to Viljandi. Platforms closest to the station are primarily utilized by commuter trains or long-distance services to Tartu or Narva.
The Balti jaam is located near the Jaama turg market ("station market").
Balti jaam is located northwest of Tallinn's historic center (Old Town). Tallinn's first railway station was built towards the end of the 1860s as part of a 400 km (250 mi) long railway line from St. Petersburg to Tallinn and Paldiski. In 1870, the first major structure was constructed. It was a two-story limestone structure with tower-like extrusions. The station building was set on fire by the Red Army during World War II in 1941, and it was partially rebuilt shortly after the war ended in 1945. The station was fully rebuilt between 1960 and 1966. The 20x20m waiting pavilion for commuter trains has been utilized as a market since the 1990s. The station building was extensively renovated in 2005, and the Hotel Shnelli and Estonian Railways' (Eesti Raudtee) offices were built adjacent.
