is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, part of the Ionian Islands, that forms the northwestern border of Greece with its tiny subsidiary islands. The island is part of the Corfu regional unit and is governed by three municipalities, which also include the islands of Othonoi, Ereikoussa, and Mathraki. Corfu is also the name of the island's capital city. The Ionian University is located in Corfu.

Following an ICOMOS proposal, the city's old town was inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. Corfu hosted the European Union summit in 1994. The island is a well-known tourist attraction.

Corfiotes have a long history of welcoming foreign inhabitants and tourists, as shown in the twentieth century by Gerald Durrell's boyhood memoir My Family and Other Animals. The north east shore has primarily been developed by a few British tourist businesses, who have built huge, costly vacation houses. Package vacation resorts may be found in the north, east, and southwest coasts.

The southern resort of Kavos, on the other end of the island, also has tourist amenities.

St George South, to the west, has the island's largest sandy beach, as well as a variety of all-inclusive package hotels and traditional Corfiot homes and apartments. The Korission lake natural reserve also serves as a rest station for European birds traveling south.

It was largely visited by European royals and elites, notably Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, until the early twentieth century; today, it is also popular with middle-class families (primarily from the UK, Scandinavia and Germany). Corfu was one of the major locations for this new kind of mass tourism, with the introduction of the jet aircraft bringing large groups very inexpensive 'package holidays.' However, it remains popular with the ultra-rich, and residents in the island's northeast include members of the Rothschild family and Russian oligarchs.
