Cambridge is a town in the Waipa District of New Zealand's North Island's Waikato area. Cambridge, located 24 kilometers southeast of Hamilton on the banks of the Waikato River, is known as "The Town of Trees & Champions." The town is the largest in the Waipa District and the Waikato's third largest urban area (after Hamilton and Taupo).

Cambridge was a finalist in Keep New Zealand Beautiful's 2017 and 2019 New Zealand's Most Beautiful Large Town awards. In October 2019, it was named New Zealand's Most Beautiful Large Town.

Transport

Cambridge is located on State Highway 1, which connects it to Hamilton in the northwest and Tauranga, Rotorua, and Taupo in the southeast. Cambridge is accessible from the north by the Cambridge Road and Victoria Road interchanges, and from the south through the Tirau Road interchange. Prior to the inauguration of the Waikato Expressway expansion in December 2015, SH 1 passed through the heart of Cambridge.

State Highway 1B departs from SH 1 at the Victoria Road junction and connects to SH 1 near Taupiri, offering a route north towards Auckland while bypassing Hamilton to the east.

The nearest airport is Hamilton Airport, which is 18 minutes' drive from Cambridge and has daily flights to all of New Zealand's major cities.

Several times per day, a public bus service connects Cambridge with central Hamilton through Tamahere and Waikato University.

Cambridge was the former endpoint of the Cambridge Branch railway, which closed beyond Hautapu in 1999.
Until the railway was completed, the Waikato River served as the primary mode of transportation, with Cambridge serving as the limit of navigation. Until the 1930s, steamers continued to serve Cambridge. The dock was located near the Karapiro Stream, where the river was wide enough to allow steamers to turn.
