Vilamoura is a municipality in the municipality of Loulé in the Algarve region of Portugal's southern coast. It is one of the three corners of the Golden Triangle of the Algarve. Vilamoura is one of Europe's largest single tourism complexes, covering over 2,000 hectares of land. Faro has the nearest airport.

Between 1996 and 2003, the location hosted the annual Almond Blossom Cross Country race, and the same route was chosen as the venue for the 2000 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

The marina, which can accommodate over 1,000 yachts, is located in the center of Vilamoura. The marina is flanked by huge hotels and luxurious vacation houses, as well as a medium-sized casino, a variety of restaurants, and lively pubs. Charter boats for big game fishing are available at the marina's outer reaches. There are also jet ski and parasailing facilities. There are also a lot of sports clubs and nightclubs nearby. Vilamoura's tourism industry is vast and well-developed, with several resorts rated three to five stars. This is a significantly higher average than the neighboring areas, which range from two to four stars. The town is very opulently constructed as a result of being largely privately owned. The town and marina provide a wide range of activities, most of which take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends, such as tours of the local caves along the shoreline (which are nearer to Albufeira than they are to Vilamoura). This cave trip is often conducted on tour boats. There are also two firms in the region that provide trains-on-wheels between resorts.

For history buffs, there is a restored Roman site and museum that provides insight into the area's past. The remnants of what was once a Roman fishing village feature baths where seafarers used to wash.

Cidade Lacustre, a new project that Lusort will build in Vilamoura over the next few years, will be added to the marina.
