Ibiza is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea off Spain's east coast. It is located 150 kilometers from Valencia. It is the third biggest of the Balearic Islands and a Spanish autonomous community. Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària des Riu, and Sant Antoni de Portmany are its biggest towns. Sa Talaiassa, its highest point, is 475 meters above sea level.
Ibiza has become widely renowned for its nightlife, electronic dance music, and summer club scene, all of which draw significant numbers of tourists. The administration of the island and the Spanish Tourist Office have collaborated to promote more family-friendly tourism.
Ibiza has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Pine Islands, or "Pityuses," refer to Ibiza and the adjacent island of Formentera to the south.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Though it is most known for its nightlife, significant sections of the island have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, shielding them from the growth and commercialization of the main cities.
The Renaissance walls of Ibiza City's old town, which were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, are one prominent example. They are one of the few Renaissance walls in the world that have not been dismantled, and a portion of the medieval wall can still be seen. Some of the most traditional Ibizan cultural sites, such as the ruins of the earliest Phoenician town at Sa Caleta, may be found at "God's Finger" in the Benirràs Bay. Other locations, such as Ses Feixes Wetlands, are still under danger from developers, but this site has now been identified as a vulnerable habitat, and it is believed that efforts will be made to conserve this wetland.
Transport
Road map with Ibiza Airport (on the southern tip) and water routes.
Ibiza has its own airport, which sees a high volume of foreign flights, particularly from the European Union, during the summer tourist season.
Ferries run from Sant Antoni's harbor and Ibiza Town to Barcelona, Majorca, Dénia, and Valencia. There are additional ferries to Formentera that leave Sant Antoni Harbour (usually every Wednesday) and Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària, and Figueretes–Platja d'en Bossa on a daily basis.
Several public buses run every 15 minutes between Sant Antoni and Ibiza Town in the summer and every half-hour in the winter. There are also buses from Sant Antoni to Cala Bassa, Cala Conta, and Cala Tarida, as well as the airport. Buses go from Ibiza to Platja d'en Bossa, Ses Salines, the airport, and Santa Eulària.
