Slanchev Bryag, or Sunny Beach, is a prominent beach resort on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, roughly 35 kilometers north of Burgas in Nesebar Municipality in Burgas Province.
Sunny Beach, which was founded in 1958 as a weekend retreat for Bulgarian families, has evolved to become the country's most popular tourist and holiday destination. Today, the region provides a sizable portion of the province's annual GDP. Originally a modest beachfront resort, it has expanded to encompass a wide range of recreational activities and services, as well as gaming institutions and sports and music venues.
Because of its fast expansion, it has become the largest resort on the whole Black Sea coast; to the south, the complex has amalgamated with the built-up suburbs of the town of Nessebar.
Attractions
Tourists may enjoy the beach, water sports, and the adjacent historic landmark of Nessebar. There are two water parks near the resort, and a third will be developed shortly near the Kosharitca exit. Sunny Beach hosts the Decade of Symphonic Music, which is part of the International Folklore Festival, fashion displays, and numerous beach contests. Until 1999, the Golden Orpheus music contest was held here.
