Playa del Inglés is a beach resort in Maspalomas, on the south coast of the Canary Island of Gran Canaria. It is a famous tourist destination and is part of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In 2013, the population was 7,515 people.

The resort's name has been the subject of significant debate. One theory is that an English bohemian relocated to the unspoiled area in the early twentieth century. It has been claimed, however, that the Bohemian was actually French and was misidentified as English by the locals.

Playa del Inglés is part of the greater Maspalomas sea resort zone, as are the neighboring resort towns of San Agustn and Sonnenland. Maspalomas Dunes are located to the south of the resort.

Until the 1960s, when large-scale tourist development transformed the resort, the region remained mostly unspoilt. Many of these structures were huge concrete tower blocks, but many of them have been renovated in recent years to make them more compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. The resort has a variety of big retail centers, the greatest of which are the 'Yumbo' and 'Kasbah.'

For almost 25 years, Playa del Inglés has been linked with homosexual visitors, although it is today a partying town. Despite the fact that the Canaries are predominantly Catholic, people have welcomed homosexual tourists. The Yumbo Centrum retail center and its surrounding neighborhood are the major areas for gay and LGBT-friendly pubs, clubs, and lodging. At least 30 establishments cater to homosexual mainstream and specialty preferences, such as leather, drag, cabaret, sport, cruising, and men/women only.

Every year during the second week of May, one of Europe's major gay pride events takes place in and around the Yumbo Centre. More than 100,000 individuals attended the 2011 event.

During the 2013 Pride festival, a fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, inflicting extensive damage to the southern portion of the centre, impacting Cruise, Amigos, Chez Funnyboys, and Rickys Showbar. The origin of the fire is unknown, however it was rumored at the time that it was the result of an arson attempt by a disgruntled employee. Because to the staff' efforts, most bars reopened later in the week.
