Save on Car Rental at Brussels Train Station
Brussels Central Station, often known as Brussels Central, is a railway and metro station in the Belgian capital of Brussels. It is Belgium's second busiest railway station and one of three major railway stations in Brussels, along with Brussels-South and Brussels-North. It is the newest of Brussels' principal rail terminals, having been finished in 1952 following lengthy delays due by economic problems and World War II.
Brussels Central is linked to the Gare Centrale/Centraal Station station on lines 1 and 5 of the Brussels metro system, and it is an important node of the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB/MIVB).
Six tracks service three island platforms at the railway station. These are located beneath the city blocks of Boulevard de l'Impératrice/Keizerinlaan, Rue de l'Infante Isabelle/Infante Isabellastraat, Kantersteen, and Rue de la Putterie/Putterijstraat. The main entrance and ticket office are on the ground floor of Boulevard de l'Impératrice, and there are many more entrances on the surrounding streets.
Between 2004 and 2010, the station was rebuilt in an attempt to better equip it for current levels of demand. On that occasion, two new entrances were built, and the original entrance was completely restored. In front of the station, the Carrefour de l'Europe/Europakruispunt, a pedestrianized square, was built. The tunnel that connects the main station to the metro stop was then slated for repair. It has been characterized as decrepit, filthy, and always tainted with the odor of urine. In 2010, an architectural company was hired to carry out the renovation, which aimed to give the hallway a better "window" into Brussels for the numerous visitors that start their journey there. In 2013, the new tunnel with hops and a more light, graffiti-resistant atmosphere were finished.
